Well Engaged — Everyday Guide for Nursing & Care Staff
A friendly guide to the resident iPad. Ten minutes to read; nothing here can break anything.
Well Engaged is an engagement & participation tool, not a clinical, diagnostic or screening device. Nothing you do in it forms part of a resident's health record.
Prefer to watch? The kiosk day-to-day in about two minutes — then the same ground step by step below.
1. What the iPad in the lounge is for
The Well Engaged iPad is a resident activity station. Residents (with or without a helper) play short, adjustable activity sessions — trivia, word games, picture games, the Bloomwright flower puzzle — and the app quietly keeps a record of participation that your coordinator uses for family newsletters and quality reporting.
You don't need to log in to help a resident play. The iPad sits in resident mode all day.

2. Helping a resident start a session
Tap the resident's photo on the home screen. If you can't see them, swipe through the list — every resident of this house with participation consent appears here.
Enter the staff PIN on the unlock screen (your coordinator will have given you this) and tap Unlock & hand over. This little step keeps each resident's sessions and family photos private to them.

The resident (or you together) picks how long to spend — a quick visit, a good session, or a big day out — and the session begins: one activity at a time, big text, nothing timed.

Let the resident drive as much as they can. Reading a question aloud, or steadying a hand, is perfect helping. Choosing answers for them defeats the purpose.
Sessions end on their own after a comfortable number of activities, with a cheerful goodbye. There is no way to fail and no score shown to the resident beyond stars and encouragement.
If the resident wants to stop early — that's fine. Use the visible skip on any puzzle, or simply put the iPad down; an idle session closes itself after a couple of minutes and nothing is lost.
If the resident loves it — sessions can be played again later in the day. Variety is automatic; the app avoids repeating recent questions.
3. The quick-log — 10 seconds after a group activity
After bingo, the bus trip, gardening, a singalong — any group activity — you can log who joined in, right on the resident iPad. The quick-log lives on the staff dashboard, so first step through the staff door:
Tap Staff settings (the small link under the residents) and enter the staff PIN.
Tap the Coordinator access card at the top and sign in with your own staff email and password. The staff dashboard opens.
Scroll to Log a group activity, name the activity — "Singalong", "Planting bulbs" — and tap 1–5 next to each resident who took part.
Press Finish activity — a green "✓ All saved" line confirms everyone's record went in, and the form clears for the next activity. (Every tap saves the moment you make it, so nothing is lost if you're called away before pressing it.)
Sign out when you're done — the iPad returns to the resident home screen by itself, ready for the next session.
That's it. The log feeds the weekly family newsletter and the participation records automatically — ten seconds here saves the coordinator an hour later. (No staff login of your own yet? Ask the coordinator to set one up — it's quick.)

4. Group trivia on the TV (with any staff member)
For a lounge-room trivia hour, the coordinator's account has Trivia on the big screen — themed packs (Crooners & Rock'n'Roll, Golden Age of Hollywood, Back in My Day and more) shown one question at a time in huge type, made to be mirrored to the TV with AirPlay. Ask your coordinator to set it running; from there any staff member can host — tap Reveal the answer, then Next.
5. Things that are safe to know
The iPad never shows one resident's information to another. The home screen shows names only; session details live behind staff sign-in.
Wi-Fi dropouts don't matter. Everything keeps working offline and catches up by itself when the connection returns.
Staff settings is PIN-locked. The PIN (from your coordinator) is the staff door — you'll use it to start sessions and for the quick-log above; residents can't get past it.
Battery: the station iPad should live on its charger. If it's flat, plug it in — nothing is lost.
6. When to call the coordinator
The iPad shows "This device needs to be set up" or a QR-code screen (it's lost its enrolment — the coordinator re-enrols it in two minutes).
A resident's name is missing from the home screen.
A resident or family member asks about photos, consent, or the newsletter — these are coordinator matters and there's a proper place to record them.
That's the whole guide. If you can tap a name and hand over the iPad, you're doing it right.
